Sube Learning Language thru Art, Music & Games

Chavez believes that the traditions and knowledge of a culture are encoded and transmitted through language, and that it is through the native language of a culture that we pass on to our children, the unique world view and knowledge of that culture. She started an afterschool Spanish program in 1996 when her son was two in an effort to teach Spanish to kids in her community.

The Spanish program evolved into a business called Sube, now entering its 15th year.  It offers a complete multisensory curriculum and resource kit for teaching Spanish or English in Pre-k-5th classrooms. Her latest project called Journey with Sube dedicates a portion of Sube proceeds to schools and organizations around the world whose work helps preserve biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity.
